The Maras Group owns a lot of buildings – and all of those buildings have walls. When they decided that this enormous concrete wall could do with some art, they approached Be Friendly to create a site-specific piece that references the market history of the area.
The area is surrounded by beautiful carved reliefs depicting the produce which used to be sold in the former East End Markets. Be Friendly used colours that call to mind that produce, creating a vibrant and fresh feel for the area. The text reading ‘East’ simply and plainly signposts the area, and helps foster an increased sense of identity and place.
