Figuring Adelaide Out

Be Friendly approached Adelaide Magazine with the concept for this piece: comparing our home city of Adelaide to similarly sized cities in Japan, North America and Europe. City planning and urban design are enormous topics, so we focused on ostensibly simple but significant differences; the cost of a bus ticket, the availability of public rail transport, the cost of a coffee, access to green space.

We spent weeks conducting interviews, emailing councils around the world (“hello Hiroshima, how many hectares of park do you have?”), asking friends in Stockholm to go and buy a regular priced coffee in the name of accurate reporting; then compiled the data and then turned that data into an engaging, meaningful, informative illustration.
